May 29: In order to improve the urban infrastructure in the country, the government will approach the World Bank with a loan request worth nearly $3 billion, Union urban development minister S. Jaipal Reddy, who took charge of the ministry for the second time, said on Friday.
Mr Reddy said while the discussions on the exact amount of loan was in the initial stages of discussion, the government will approach the World Bank due to the financial crunch. As and when the World Bank releases the funds, it would be used for projects related to drinking water, sewerage, solid waste management and public transport in the urban areas.
