Sikhs stage protest in UN on Ambedkar birth anniversary celebration 14.4.2018 General News
A group of Sikhs has protested against alleged atrocities perpetrated against minority communities in India during the commemoration of Babasaheb Ambedkar's 127th birth anniversary at the world body's headquarters. India's Permanent Mission to the UN had organised a special event titled Leaving No One Behind' at the UN yesterday to celebrate Ambedkar's 127th birth anniversary. UN provided support to over 31,000 Nepal families hit by floods 27.3.2018 General News
The United Nations Development Programme, with funding from the Chinese government, has provided recovery support to over 31,800 families in Nepal affected by the 2017 floods, the global body said here today. The UNDP Nepal had in January launched the post-flood recovery project in seven most-affected districts of Terai - Sunsari, Saptari, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Rautahat and Parsa of Provinces 1 and 2 in southern part of the country following a USD 4 million grant agreement signed with the government of China. The assistance was provided under the framework of the Chinese South- South Cooperation Assistance Fund, the UNDP -- UN's global development network -- said in the statement. To assist earthquake-ravaged Nepal in its reconstruction effort, India today pledged to build 50,000 houses in its two worst hit districts. India signed an agreement with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to build 50,000 homes for quake victims in Gorkha, the epicentre of 2015 earthquake, and the Nuwakot district.
