ACB won’t be exempted from Right to Information Act 31.10.2014 Asian Age: Mumbai
After a section of society and activists expressed displeasure over the exemption of the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) from the provisions of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, governor of Maharashtra C. Vidyasagar Rao on Thursday directed the state government to withdraw the notification. RTI activists in the state have appreciated the decision and said it would help strengthen the movement to make the state corruption free. The governor took the decision to withdraw the notification issued by the state government on September 6, 2014 after considering representations from various RTI activists and taking cognisance of newspaper reports which reflected the view that the notification was in violation of the RTI Act, the governor’s office said. The governor also got the issue legally examined before taking the decision to withdraw the notification.
