Vail Daily letter: Nordic festival a success 16.2.2010 Vail Colorado: Editorials
The first annual Eagle Nordic Festival was a great success, and we'd like to thank all those who contributed. We had over 40 people in the three races, and everyone had a lot of fun and big smiles on their faces! After the races, many people took part in the free Nordic clinics offered, as well as the snowshoe hike. First off, we'd like to thank the Eagle Ranch Golf Course for providing their support in so many ways, including the use of the club house for registration, lunch, awards and prizes. WECMRD contributed prizes and staff to help out and logistics for the race. Thanks to the many volunteers that came out to help with timing, course marshals, registration, cookie baking and soliciting prize donations. We also want to thank the many ...

Vail Daily letter: Against Hidden Gems 15.2.2010 Vail Colorado: Business
I do not ride a mountain bike, ATV or snowmobile, and do not discriminate against those that do. The proposed Hidden Gems wilderness initiative would reduce current legal trail use in the White River National Forest from about 1,800 miles to about 900. This would result in overcrowding of trails and bottle necks at wilderness access points, eventually resulting in hunters and ATV riders, snowmobilers, mountain bikers etc., going elsewhere, costing the state millions of dollars in revenue from hunting licenses, registration fees, lodging, food, etc. This could also make managing wildlife population more difficult, resulting in to large herd, which will possibly lead to animals starving or becoming diseased and dying. Logging is yet another ...

Now, the beach is moving closer to the spot where I sit, minute by minute. Most of the fishermen are gone. The man with the gun stands, gesturing for me to follow him. read ...
