India Cements clocks 4Q standalone net at Rs 35.27 Cr 25.5.2018 General News
India Cements Ltd today clocked a marginal increase in the standalone net profits at Rs 35.27 crore for the fourth quarter ending March 31, 2018. It had reported standalone net profits of Rs 34.28 crore in the same period last year, company Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, N Srinivasan said here. Standalone net profits for the full year ending March 31, 2018 slipped to Rs 100.62 crore from Rs 173.35 crore registered in the corresponding period last year, he said. "The performance of the company was lower than that of the previous year, mainly on account of increase in cost of production caused by various factors like teething troubles arising out of GST roll out and ban on sand mining in several states. Our net plant realisation was marginally lower", he told reporters. NMDC raises lump ore rate by Rs 150 a tonne 23.5.2018 General News
Country's largest iron ore miner NMDC today said it has raised the price of lump ore by Rs 150 to Rs 3,050 per tonne. The rate of fines was also hiked by Rs 100 to Rs 2,660 per tonne. On April 18, the state-run firm had fixed the rate of lump ore at Rs 2,900 per tonne and of fines at Rs 2,560 per tonne. The new rates are with effect from May 23, 2018, NMDC said in a BSE filing. The current prices exclude royalty, DMF (District Mineral Fund), NMET (National Mineral Exploration Trust), cess, forest permit fee and other taxes, it said. Iron ore is the main ingredient for making steel. NMDC produces about 30 million tonne of iron ore from three fully mechanised mines. The company is involved in the exploration of wide range of minerals including iron ore, copper, rock phosphate, limestone, dolomite, gypsum, bentonite, magnesite, diamond, tin, tungsten, graphite, beach sands etc.

Gujarat starts drone surveillance to curb illegal sand mining 21.5.2018 General News
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani today inaugurated the "Trinetra Drone Surveillance System" to keep an eye from above on the state's rivers to curb illegal sand mining. A state government release informed that, in the first phase, the TDSS would be deployed on four major rivers of the state- Sabarmati, Tapi, Orsang and Bhadar. It added that the system, in the future, would also be implemented in other sectors to keep a watch on mines and mineral deposits spread over an area of two lakh square kilometres of the state. Rupani said that the system would prove effective in stopping illegal sand mining. He said that a central command and control room would also be set up for the purpose and asked other departments, like Water Resources as well as Road and Building. to consider deploying drones.

Aurangabad DM's escort vehicle attacked by sand mafia 20.5.2018 General News
The escort vehicle of a top Aurangabad district official was attacked by sand mafia in the district today, police said. Superintendent of Police Satya Prakash said the sand mafia attacked the escort vehicle of District Magistrate Rahul Ranjan Mahiwal near Tejpura village under Daudnagar police station area of the district. Acting on a tip-off that illegal sand mining was going on from Sone river in and around Tejpura village, Mahiwal went to the spot and directed the police to seize three sand laden tractors from the directive, the SP said. When the cops went to seize the three tractors, sand mafia henchmen attacked the policemen in which three constables received minor injuries, the SP said adding they were treated at a nearby hospital. One of the attackers has been arrested in this regard.
