Sunil Bose second accused in illegal sand case 13.9.2017 Deccan Herald - News
The Third Additional District and Sessions Court on Wednesday made Sunil Bose, son of Minister for Public Works H C Mahadevappa, an accused in the case of aiding and abetting Mines and Geology Department officials to take bribe in an illegal sand transportation case. The court also ordered Bose, second accused, to be present before it on September 26. In 2016, the sessions court had ordered Bose and his friend Raju as accused. But Bose had approached high court questioning the order. The high court had quashed the lower court order, but directed to continue with the proceedings. As the session court found strong evidence against Bose, it made him an accused as he had threatened the witnesses. The Lokayukta police had registered a case against Raju and Alphonse, aides of Bose and government employees attached to the Department of Mines and Geology. Complainant Basavaraju had charged that Alphonse was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe on behalf of Bose from Basavaraju in an illegal sand mining ...

Check Illegal mining activities: Hassan DC tells officials 12.9.2017 Deccan Herald - District
Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri has directed officials of the department of Mines and Geology to be extra vigilant about private mines so as to prevent illegal quarrying and sand mining in the district. Presiding over a meeting here on Tuesday, the DC said that those involved in mining activities should possess necessary licenses issued by the authorities concerned. Stern action should be taken against those who violate the law, she stressed. Rohini said that only those applications which have no objection certificate from the Forest and Revenue departments should be considered. The applications submitted after the last date should be cleared as directed by the court, she said. When SP Rahul Kumar pointed out the discrepancies in the tender process for sand extraction, the DC suggested a review to ensure that there are no irregularities. Clear pending applications for sand removal in Udupi: BJP 9.9.2017 deccanherald.com
The BJP unit has demanded that the district administration process all previous applications for sand removal in the district at the earliest. District BJP president Mattar Ratnakar Hedge told reporters here on Saturday that although the sand extraction activities have started in the district, measures should be taken immediately to permit all the 164 applicants to remove the sand in CRZ area. He alleged that although the district administration has initiated measures, it is not keen to take the process forward. He said that the district BJP unit would take up a protest rally from Hejamadi to Kaup on September 11 to condemn the "lackadaisical attitude" of the Congress-led state government. It would be followed by a protest meet at Kaup, he said. The government has utterly failed to offer the assured sites to the applicants under 94C and 94 CC. Around 7,000 applications have been received. He said that the district administration is also charging Rs 6,000 to Rs 7,000 for 2.5 cents of land. He demanded ...
