Cement stocks crack on petcoke ban 20.11.2017 Business Standard: Companies & Industry
Share prices of cement companies fell sharply on Monday, on Friday's order of the Supreme Court reiterating the ban on use of petcoke in Delhi and the rest of the National Capital Region, to control pollution. The SC has clarified that the ban is applicable across Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, too.The SC also requested all states to enforce a nationwide ban on petcoke, the primary fuel and input material for cement makers. The share price of Shree Cement, whose dependence on petcoke is 100 per cent, fell by 4.2 per cent to Rs 17,529. JK Lakshmi Cement fell by 4.6 per cent to Rs 408.4, ACC by 3.4 per cent to Rs 1,706.3 and JK Cement by 5.2 per cent to Rs 1,024.5.And, there are other headwinds in the form of restriction on sand mining and other states also banning petcoke usage.According to Edelweiss Securities, the effect of the ban in Rajasthan would be to raise the cost of cement production by six to nine per cent a tonne and this is likely to be passed on to consumers in ...

Madikeri: The first additional district and sessions court has sentenced two persons to life imprisonment on the charge of murder.

The accused are Rakesh of Changulanda in Hudikeri and Deena of Kannandabane. They were also asked to pay a fine of Rs 7,500 each. For damaging the evidence, they were told to undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 2,500 each. It is said that Rakesh and Deena had murdered Deenas husband Prasanna on February 8, 2010.

71 cases registered

Madikeri: As many as 71 cases have been registered against illegal sand mining jointly by the police, mines and geology and revenue officials in the district so far, said SP P Rajendra Prasad.

In a press release, he said that was illegally extracted from the banks of river Cauvery, Harangi, Lakshmanatheertha and Barapole. As many as 10 vehicles have also been seized, he added.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said that inter-state transportation of sand from Dakshina Kannada district is prohibited. Speaking to reporters here, he said that the district-level committee will decide on banning inter-district transportation of sand depending on the availability of sand in the district. "All the boats engaged in removal of sand in CRZ area will be fit with GPS and colour code within 15 days. This will help to identify the boats that are not authorised to remove sand. All the unauthorised boats engaged in removal of sand from sand bars in CRZ areas will be seized once the drive to instal GPS and colour code is complete," Senthil said. Though there is no problem in removal of sand in non-CRZ area, the DC said that there is water in the river as there is no scope for instream mining of sand.
