AES, Odisha invest additional Rs 485 crore in OPGC equity 23.3.2017 Business Standard: Companies & Industry
Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC), a 51: 49 joint venture between the Odisha government and the US based AES, has expanded its equity base by Rs 485 crore with proportionate additional capital infusion by both the shareholders. The equity infusion was required to support the investment for capacity expansion of the thermal power station of the company which is underway. OPGC runs a 420 Mw coal based thermal power plant at Ib Valley in Jharsuguda district and is in the process of expanding the capacity by 1320 Mw (2X660 Mw). The funding of the expansion project along with development of captive coal mines is estimated to cost Rs.11,547 crore and is based on a Debt to Equity ratio of 75:25. While the Odisha government has released Rs 247.35 crore in favour of OPGC as equity contribution, AES has brought in additional 35.39 million USD (Rs. 237.65 crore) proportionate to its 49 per cent stake in the company, thus raising the paid up equity capital of OPGC to about Rs. 975 crore .

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mahant Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday kept the crucial Home portfolio with him while allocating portfolios to his 46-member Cabinet. He also kept with him major portfolios of Vigilance, and Mining, apart from other three dozen departments. The crucial Finance ministry has been allocated to Rajesh Agarwal, a six-time MLA and former deputy speaker of UP Assembly. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who has been vying for the Home portfolio, has been allotted PWD, Food and Processing, Entertainment and Public Enterprises. Maurya is also the state BJP president and is yet to relinquish the post. Major Industries Minister R VDeshpande said Tata Metaliks Ltd has withdrawn its Rs 15,000-cr steel plant project from Haveri. He said in the Assembly that last October, Tata Metaliks informed the government that the project had become unviable because of non-availability of mines and iron ore. It has requested the government to refund the money paid for allotment of land. The government is examining the request. The company had planned to establish a 3 MTPA integrated steel plant with an investment of Rs 15,000 crore on 2,500 acres of land in various villages inHaveri taluk. The project was cleared by the State High Level Clearance Committee. A preliminary notification on land acquisition was issued in 2010. The minister gave details in reply to questions raised by Basavaraj N Shivannanavar (Cong). The MLA said farmers who parted with land are struggling to get compensation.
