SHILLONG, Nov 13: Social activist and president of the Civil Society Women’s Organization, Agnes Kharshiing has regained consciousness after a brutal attack by a group of people in East Jaintia Hills (EJH). However Kharshiing is still in critical condition at NEIGRIHMS where she was shifted for medical attention.
Kharshiing is still battling for her life after she and her associate Amita Sangma were attacked by suspected mining mafia at Sohshrieh village in coal-rich district of East Jaintia Hills on November 8.

TURA, Nov 13: The Achik Indigenous Justice Initiative Forum (AIJIF) has sought an inquiry by a Central team (CBI or NIA) into the brutal assault on two social activists, Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague Amita Sangma, which left both of them in hospital with Agnes still struggling for her life.
Kharshiing and Sangma were assaulted by a group of about 30-40 men at the village of Sohshrieh in East Jaitia Hills. They were however waylaid by a woman who blocked the road with a vehicle allowing for the others to assault the two activists. The assault was allegedly due to activism by the CSWO president against illegal coal mining in the state.

New Delhi Retail inflation cools to year-low of 3.31% in October Industrial production grew at the slowest pace in four months at 4.5 per cent in September mainly due to poor performance of mining sector and lower offtake of capital goods. The industrial production measured in terms of Index of Industrial Production (IIP) was 4.1 per cent in September 2017. Sequentially, the factory output growth for August was revised slightly upward to 4.6 per cent from provisional figure of 4.3 per cent, according to Central Statistics Office (CSO) data released Monday. The IIP was recorded at 6.9 per cent and 6.5 per cent in June and July this year, respectively. The previous low was recorded at 3.8 per cent in May this year. The mining sector output growth decelerated to 0.2 per cent in September against 7.6 per cent in the year-ago month.
