The Forest Department has taken all precautionary measures to check forest fires in the Kudremukh National Park. Along with desi knowledge, modern technology is being used to check the forest fire. Sensitive area The National Park is one of the sensitive areas in the world. The evergreen forest and Shola forest are known across the globe. The Forest Department has already put in place precautionary measures and has formed fire lines across all forest ranges, including vulnerable areas at Mullodi, Soojigudda, Lakya, Ganapathikatte and Karle. Along with the staff of the department, the service of 50 persons hired on contract basis are used. Burning solution A fire line, is the practice of burning a strip of vegetation grass and clearing the land so that if there is a fire, the flames do not spread. Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), also known as Vizag Steel, is expecting to be back in the black in the 2018-19 fiscal after a gap of three years, a company official said today. In the last fiscal, RINL, the second largest steel-making company in the public sector, posted an EBITDA of Rs 200 crore. "In March 2018, RINL had posted a net profit. We expect to be back in the black by posting a net profit in the current fiscal," CMD of RINL, P Madhusudan said. He told reporters here that the outlook for the steel industry is positive, as all the consuming sectors were looking up. RINL, Madhusudan said, was now reaping the benefits of expansion and modernisation, which has stabilised by now coupled with steady markets, mostly in the southern region. Indian Naval Ships, the minesweepers 'Konkan', 'Cannanore' and 'Cuddalore', were decommissioned in a ceremony at Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam today. Chief of Staff, Eastern Naval Command, Vice Admiral M S Pawar was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The three retiredcommissioning Commanding Officers of INS Cannnore, INS Cuddalore and INS Konkan, Rear Admiral Ravi Gaikawad, Rear Admiral P K Nair and Commodore Mohandas were the guests of honour. The ships retired as operational ships after three decades of service in the Indian Navy, a navy release said. DRI seizes over 10 tonnes of redsanders from China bound 9.3.2018 General News
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence has foiled an attempt to smuggle over ten tonnes of redsanders by seizing two containers from a vessel bound for China at the container terminal of the Visakhapatnam port here. In a release, Additional Director General, Hyderabad zonal unit, M.K.Singh, said based on specific information that redsanders, prohibited for export, were being smuggled, officers of DRI, Visakhapatnam, offloaded the containers on March 14. The officials found 10.1 tonnes of redsanders along with bentonite powder in the containers which were seized. Bentonite, a type of absorbent clay, is a useful substance in industrial applications. The contraband, shipped from Chennai, was estimated to fetch a price of Rs four crore in China.

Karnataka will not implent Project Tiger: Minister 24.2.2018 Deccan Herald - News
The state government has decided against implementing Project Tiger and the recommendations of the Kasturi Rangan Report on the Western Ghats to "allay peoples fears over displacement and loss of livelihood," said Forest Minister Ramanath Rai. Speaking after inaugurating "Saalumarada Thimmakka Tree Park" here on Saturday, the minister said that people in and around Kudremukh were facing threat to their livelihood as Project Tiger would displace thousands of families in the region. Rai added that the government would honour the martyrs in the forest department who laid down their lives on the line of duty with Chief Ministers Gold Medal. The compensation to the families of persons who lose their lives due to attack by wild animals has been doubled to Rs 5 lakh. Panambur police and Anti-Rowdy Squad personnel arrested three persons for allegedly conspiring to loot and murder Shivaraj Karkera at Bengre for revenge.

According to City Police Commissioner T R Suresh, the arrested are Pradeep Kumar, alias Pradeep Mendor of Ambalpady, Sunil of Kudroli Bengre and Charan Shet of Bolar. Bharath and Naveen have fled the spot. A team of five persons were conspiring the dacoity near KIOCL Junction. Police seized lethal weapons and two-wheelers from the arrested.

In fact, there are 14 cases against Pradeep Kumar in Mangaluru and outside Mangaluru. There are four cases against Charan Shet.

As soon as my family I get a long weekend, we take a break from our daily routines. Weve been to Chikkamagaluru but Kudremukh is one of the best places we have visited in Karnataka. We started from home at exactly 6 am. We took a break at Kicchana Halli Mane for breakfast. Its one of the neatest and cleanest South Indian vegetarian restaurant. The ambience, the staff and the food were excellent. We didnt stop anywhere after breakfast. We took a route guided by the ByneKaadu management. Its a fun ride with well-maintained roads. We reached there at 12.30 pm. I dont have words to describe how amazing the place is. At around 4.30 pm, after our tea and coffee break, the resort provided us with a jeep to go to Gaali Gudda, one of the best peaks of Kudremukh. It offers a great scenic view of the Western Ghats. Its almost 20 km from ByneKaadu, with muddy and bumpy roads. My son really enjoyed the ride. Our guide Ganesh took us safely. After reaching there, we took some photographs. We missed the sunset though ...

RINL to remain PSU after IPO, says govt 9.2.2018 General News
Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), the corporate entity of Vizag Steel, will continue to be a public sector undertaking post the listing of its shares on stock exchange, the government said today. In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Finance P Radhakrishnan said that the decision of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) is for listing of shares of RINL through disinvestment of 10 per cent paid up equity through the initial public offer (IPO) process. The government shareholding in the company is 100 per cent, he said. "The decision does not tantamount for privatisation of RINL," Radhakrishnan said. RINL had filed the draft red herring prospectus with the markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) for an IPO in 2012.
