TURA, April 20: The trend of violence against women in Garo Hills continued after a 60 year old woman was assaulted by the VEC secretary of Alokdia village after the victim questioned the siphoning of 4 days of job card wages due to them. Surprisingly when the victim tried to file a complaint on the matter, the police as well as local MLA of Tikrikilla tried to pressure her into settling the matter, instead of pursuing the case further.

Pilgrimage train flagged off from Sambalpur station 17.4.2018 General News
A special pilgrimage train for senior citizens, under the Baristha Nagarika Tirtha Yatra Yojana, has been flagged off from Sambalpur station by Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik. The train, flagged off through video conferencing yesterday, will take senior citizens to Shirdi, Nasik and Trimbakeshwar during the seven-day tour, District Tourist Officer, Rabindra Dalei said. As many as 998 senior citizens from 10 districts of the western region of the state boarded the train. The Odisha government has signed an MoU with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation for the pilgrimage plan on the basis of which the company will provide all requisite facilities to the pilgrims in the train, he said. People in the age group of 60-75 years are eligible to avail the benefit of the plan. Anil Vij orders inquiry into irregularities in MGNREGS 14.4.2018 General News
Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij has ordered a vigilance inquiry into alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) in Kheri Lamba village in Kaithal district. Vij, who was presiding over a meeting of the District Grievance Redressal Committee in Kaithal today, ordered the inquiry after hearing complaints from villagers regarding fake job cards and other irregularities, according to an official release. A total of 12 complaints were taken up by the minister in the meeting. On other complaints, Vij ordered action against the sarpanch of Dherdu village for irregularities in various development works. A villager accused the sarpanch of embezzlement of funds sanctioned for construction of a cremation ground.

Centre releases Rs 2,062 Cr to Telangana under job guarantee 13.4.2018 General News
The Centre has released Rs 2,062 crore for Telangana under the MN-NREGS, the state government said here today. State Panchayat Raj Minister Jupally Krishna Rao has directed officials to speed up works under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme during the next three months, it said in a release. SHILLONG, April 09: Nongkynjeng village in West Khasi Hills (WKH) has become the first village in North East to have a road built using waste plastic. The road measuring one-km in length has been built with shredded waste plastic technology in convergence with MGNREGA and Megha-LAMP.
A technology developed by Rajagopalan Vasudevan, a chemistry professor from Madurai, uses finely-shredded plastic waste that is added to heated bitumen. This technology has been used extensively in parts of Tamilnadu and Karnataka. However this is the first time such technology being implemented by a district administration in North East.

Authorities in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir have completed construction of 102 family-type bunkers along the Line of Control (LoC) for the safety of families in the wake of frequent ceasefire violations by Pakistan. Each bunker has a capacity to accommodate 10 persons for long-term and 12 to 16 persons for short-term. Thus about 1,200 persons can take shelter during the emergency situation, District Development Commissioner, Rajouri, Shahid Iqbal Choudhary said. He said the bunkers have been completed in various villages along the LoC. "The technical design of the bunker withstands the kind of weaponry frequently used by Pakistan in ceasefire violations," Choudhary said. The LoC runs through 120-kilometer long stretch in the district across 72 villages in six tehsils. Nearly 22 villages are easy targets of Pakistani shelling.
