Treated water from the new sewage treatment plant (STP) in the upstream of Bellandur lake will be diverted to waterbodies in Kolar district. The STP with a capacity of 60 MLD (million litres per day) has come up at B Nagasandra, Yemalur, near Embassy Golf Links. Built at a cost of Rs 201 crore, the plant has been built by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) with financial assistance from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The plant is equipped with Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) technology besides a biogas engine that will help generate 1 MW electricity daily. Wastewater from Kanakapura Road and Sarjapur Road will reach the plant via a canal of Agara lake. This way, about 12 MLD of sewage water can be stopped from going to Bellandur lake every day.
