TURA, Sep 19: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) – Mindikgre regional unit has raised the matter of some non Garo people, residing in the district, fraudulently changing their identities to that of a Garo, a complaint that they had raised more than 4 years ago and which has failed to illicit any response from the administration.
The NGO had raised the matter of the acquiring of tribal status by non tribals in the year 2014 when they submitted memo to then DC of SGH after which a hearing was called. However despite the findings no action was taken against the people in question and they continued enjoying tribal status despite them not having Garo blood.

Tura, Sep 16:  The Achik Indigenous Justice Initiative Forum (AIJIF) today raised the matter of the extremely poor condition of both the National Highway 62 and 51 to the office of the prime minister, Narendra Modi, seeking to highlight the problems being faced as well as trying to find a resolution to the problem.
In a memo sent to the office of the PMO, the NGO pointed out that the state of Meghalaya was strategically important though economically under developed mainly due to the poor condition of road connectivity between parts of the state.

TURA, Sep 15: Angered at the extremely poor condition of the Samgong – Damagre road within the precincts of the town, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Williamnagar has sought the immediate repair of the road that is one of the only connecting points for school and college going children.
The road, which becomes literally unusable due to there being no metalling or tar, connects the main road to Nengkhra through the District Jail, Loyola College and Ferrando School is located within the jurisdiction of the town of Williamnagar. The road falls under PWD.
