Tikrikilla AYC raises issue of illegal land transfer 14.11.2018 Meghalaya Times

TURA, Nov 14: The Achik Youth Council (AYC), TIkrikilla has raised the issue of illegal tribal land transfer in the town of Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills (WGH) into non tribal names – all with the tacit support of many and in direct contravention of the state’s land Act.
“From numerous surveys it was founded that many tribal lands were illegally and secretly transferred to non tribals with the help of various people who acted as middlemen.

TURA, Nov 13: The Achik Indigenous Justice Initiative Forum (AIJIF) has sought an inquiry by a Central team (CBI or NIA) into the brutal assault on two social activists, Agnes Kharshiing and her colleague Amita Sangma, which left both of them in hospital with Agnes still struggling for her life.
Kharshiing and Sangma were assaulted by a group of about 30-40 men at the village of Sohshrieh in East Jaitia Hills. They were however waylaid by a woman who blocked the road with a vehicle allowing for the others to assault the two activists. The assault was allegedly due to activism by the CSWO president against illegal coal mining in the state.
