HRD ministry can go ahead with selection of faculty to IITs: HC 24.4.2018 General News
The Madras High Court today said the HRD Ministry can go ahead with the process of selection of faculty to IITs, but made it clear that it would be subject to the result of a writ appeal filed before it in the above connection. The appeal challenged a single judge's order upholding the appointment of Bhaskar Ramamurthi as the director of Indian Institutes of Technology, Madras. In its interim order, a division bench, comprising Justices Huluvadi G Ramesh and M Dhandapani, said the secretary, higher education, HRD Ministry can go ahead with the process of selection of faculty to IITs following the roster and reservation policy. "The same is subject to the result of the writ appeal. If there is any violation in the process of selection without adhering to the principles of reservation violating Article 14 and 16 of the Constitution, it would attract serious penal consequences," the bench said. One crore students to get subsidised wheat, rice in hostels 23.4.2018 General News
The Central Government on Monday announced that they will provide 15 kg of wheat and rice per month to students in all hostels including at least two-third of students from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes.The decision was announced by Food Minister Ram Vilas Paswan stating that the government will provide grains at Below Poverty Line (BPL) rate which is Rs. 4.15 per kg for wheat and Rs 5.65 per kg for rice."In all other hostels, be it government or private, where two-third students are from SC, ST, OBC and OBC among minorities, 15 kg of wheat or rice will be provided per student per month at BPL rates," Paswan told reporters here.Paswan further noted that in such hostels, even students belonging to the general category would get subsidised grains."The Centre will bear the entire cost of the scheme. A group of 50 alumni from the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) across the country have quit their jobs to form a political party to fight for the rights of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes. The group, which is waiting for an approval from the Election Commission, has named their outfit Bahujan Azad Party. : Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao today announced two per cent reservation in state government jobs for sportspersons. The Delhi High Court today stayed the admission for M.Phil and PhD courses in the five per cent unfilled seats for students with disability in the Jawaharlal Nehru (JNU) University.
