The Kolkata police (Garden Reach police station) have not even raided the house of the accused, who goes by the name of Mintoo Mian and who was recognised by the father as well as the nephew of the victim as the abductor, in search of the missing teen even though the Kolkata High Court ordered on February 16 that a raid be conducted and a report be submitted to it by the police. "On the contrary, the joint commissioner of police of Kolkata, whom the court had issued direction to for the raid and recovery of the girl, tweeted that it was a rumour that the girl was missing and that those found spreading the rumour will be punished," Uday Chandra Jha, the lawyer for the victim's family told DNA. SC to hear on Apr 23 pleas on dilution of anti-dowry law 20.4.2018 General News
The Supreme Court today said it would hear on Monday the petitions seeking revisiting a judgement that had reduced the severity of the anti-dowry penal law on the offence of subjecting a married woman to cruelty by her spouse and in-laws. The decision came after a bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud said the orders on the matter cannot be found as the apex court website got "hacked yesterday". All the people worked whole night to fix the problem," the bench said and assured senior advocate Indira Jaising, counsel for NGO 'Social Action Forum', that her plea on the issue would be listed for hearing on April 23 along with other petitions. A two judge bench of the apex court in July last year had voiced concern over "abuse" of section 498 A (subjecting a married woman to cruelty) of the IPC and passed a slew of directions including that no arrest should "normally be effected" without verifying ...

A Bar Council of India (BCI) team today met the representatives of the Bar Association of Jammu (BAJ) who refuted allegations that the lawyer of the Kathua rape and murder victim was prevented from appearing in court by fellow advocates. The Supreme Court had directed the BCI team to visit Jammu and submit its report over the conduct of lawyers after taking serious note of advocates obstructing the judicial process in the Kathua gangrape and murder case. Initiating a case on its own accord, the apex court had said such impeding of the process of law "affects the delivery of justice". The BCI team, headed by former chief Justice Tarun Agarwal, today met the lawyers of BAJ who strongly batted for a CBI probe to ensure justice for the minor victim and categorically stated they have no faith in the Crime Branch probe. "A full house meeting took place in presence of the Bar council. We have put forth our point of view. They wanted some clarifications, which we clarified," BAJ President B .
