Dalit girl burnt alive in UP 23.1.2018 General News
A 19-year-old Dalit girl was burnt alive allegedly by a father-son duo in Lalganj area here, police said today. The incident took place yesterday when one Deep and his father entered the house of Mithailal and set her daughter Anju ablaze after sprinkling kerosene oil on her, they said. The victim was alone in the house at the time of the incident. She was rushed to the hospital where she died during treatment, police said. An FIR has been registered in this connection, they said, adding no arrests have been made so far.

Woman raped in front of husband, brother-in-law; 4 arrested 22.1.2018 General News
A woman was allegedly sexually assaulted while her husband and brother-law-in were being held at gun-point at Sector-56 here, following which four persons were arrested, the police said today. Police said the incident occurred late last night when the 22-year-old woman was returning from a family function along with her husband. According to the woman, while returning in her brother- in-law's car, they stopped near Business Park Tower in sector 56, where her husband stepped out of the vehicle to attend nature's call. In the police complaint, the woman said two cars arrived there and four persons asked them the reason for stopping their vehicle there. Three men were allegedly beaten up by some members of their own community for opposing certain regressive practices of their caste panchayat, a police official said today. The police today arrested two persons in this connection, he said. The three victims from the Kanjarbhat community are part of a WhatsApp group, called 'Stop the V Ritual', formed to spread awareness against the practice of determining the virginity of a bride on the wedding night. They were beaten up by around 40 members of their community last night when they had gone to attend a relative's wedding in the district's Pimpri industrial town. The Supreme Court of Pakistan today gave a 72-hour deadline to the Punjab police chief to arrest the culprit behind the brutal rape and murder of a seven- year-old girl that has sparked national outrage. Police in Pakistan's Punjab province have failed to nab the killer of Zainab, whose body was found in a garbage heap on on January 9, despite carrying out DNA test of 800 suspects in over two weeks. Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar held the hearing of the case at the Lahore registry and admonished the police officers for their failure to arrest the killer of the victim. Haryana to enact law for rapists of minors 20.1.2018 General News
Facing heat over a string of rape incidents involving minors in Haryana recently, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today said the state would enact a law providing capital punishment to those found guilty of sexually abusing girls aged 12 years or below. Besides, the state government would make a request for setting up fast-track courts for dealing with rape cases to ensure speedy justice to victims. The chief minister was addressing people after laying the foundation stone of a sugar mill here. Six convicts were today sentenced to death by a court here for the murder of three Dalit men over an inter-caste love affair in Sonai village of Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra in January 2013. Additional District and Sessions Court Judge R R Vaishnav also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on each of the convicts. Their "brutal" act was a "disgrace for humanity", worse than a "devil's act", and, therefore, they had forfeited the right to live, Special Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam told reporters quoting the verdict.
