Party-driven system fomented corruption, casteism: Hazare 15.1.2018 General News
Party-driven electoral system has fomented social ills like corruption, casteism and violence in the country, anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare today alleged even as he strongly pitched for removal of party symbols in polling exercises. Addressing a gathering at a seminar here, the 80-year-old veteran social activist, also said, "Various parties have vitiated the atmosphere in colleges and universities by opening their wings, and led the youth astray." According to the Constitution any person above a certain age can fight elections and it does not talk of any party or party symbol, he said. "So, we must do away with it, only then the democracy will come in the truest sense. And, a candidate's name and face is enough," Hazare added. "And, it is this party-driven electoral system that has fomented corruption, casteism violence and other social evils. And, a race for electoral supremacy started since the 1952 general elections," he said. Dressed in his trademark starched ...

SC judges' comments expose unholy nexus: Hazare 12.1.2018 General News
Social activist Anna Hazare today congratulated the four Supreme Court judges for airing their views about the way the top court was functioning. The areas of concern flagged by the four senior judges of the apex court "show that there is some kind of a nexus between some people in this government and some judges", the octogenarian told PTI. This nexus had harmed the democracy, Hazare said and congratulated the four judges for making their concerns public. There should be an inquiry and the chief justice of India as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government should come out with a clarification on the issue, he said, speaking over phone from Ralegan Siddhi, his native village. Four senior judges of the Supreme Court today mounted a virtual revolt against the chief justice of India, listing a litany of problems that they said were afflicting the country's highest court and warned that these issues could destroy the Indian democracy.

Hazare threatens to go on fast from Mar 23 if Lokpal bill not 5.1.2018 General News
Social activist Anna Hazare today said he would undertake a fast from March 23 in Delhi if his demand for passing "proper" bills for Lokpal, Lokayukta and electoral reforms were not met. Hazare said this time it will be "aar-ya-paar" (final) till he gets the results he wished. Speaking to reporters here, he said he had hopes on Prime Minister Narendra Modi who he thought would bring changes in the political system and usher in a corruption free state but they were belied. The Modi government has further diluted the Lokayukta and Lokpal bills, he alleged. It is "very unfortunate" that a provision making wife and children party to the property amassed illegally by an officer was removed, he said. He said former prime minister Manmohan Singh also "weakened" the Lokpal bill. The bill presented in Parliament then was different than what was shown to him, he alleged. To a query, Hazare said it was a mistake of his life that he allowed persons like Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi

How Kejriwal is fast undoing a phenomenon called AAP 19.8.2016 DNA: Wide Angle
India has a plethora of political parties, the number exceeding 1400. Yet, the emergence of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2012 was quite phenomenal. Born out of the 'India against Corruption' (IAC) -a civil society movement led by Anna Hazare- AAP appeared as a lodestar on the Indian political horizon. AAP's founders claimed that merely launching a political party was not enough; they wanted to bring vyastha parivartan and an alternative model of politics.  Along its commitment to bring the Jan Lokpal Bill, AAP promised that it would change the course of Indian polity in three fundamental ways: 1. Use of only white money in political funding 2. End of high command culture and instituting inner part democracy (Swaraj): AAP professed that it would be a cadre based organisation with a bottom up approach and stressed that the candidate selection for elections would be done in what we know as primaries or caucuses in the Western word. In a nutshell, AAP promised to introduce a qualitative version of ‘inner party ...
