Delhi's water crisis: Cong to launch 'Jal Satyagraha' 28.5.2018 General News
The Congress's Delhi unit will launch a "Jal Satyagraha" in June to highlight the shortage of water supply in the city. The capital is facing "acute water shortage" despite the fact that Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal heads the Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said in a press conference today. The month-long Jal Satyagraha agitation will start from June 1 and conclude on June 30 in all assembly constituencies of Delhi, especially those having large concentration of unauthorised colonies, resettlement colonies and the areas where the poor people live, he said. It will highlight "failure" of the Aam Aadmi Party government in providing clean drinking water to the people and to end the vicious grip of the tanker mafia in Delhi, Maken said. "Instead of putting an end to the rule of the water tanker mafia, the AAP government has increased the number of tankers which points to corruption and a major scam," he alleged. Social activist Anna Hazare today expressed displeasure over damage to the statues across the country and said "nobody has the right to do such things". He also said the war between India and Pakistan would push both the countries three decades back but "the country should go for it if Pakistan fails to understand (the language of peace)." Talking to reporters after addressing his maiden public meeting here, he said the bringing down or vandalisation of statues is not a good thing happening in the country. The face of the Jan Lokpal movement in 2011, the 80-year-old chose March 23 to launch the agitation as it happens to be the Shaheed Diwas (Martyr's Day). The Satyagrah will highlight the problems faced by the farmers, Jan Lokpal and for electoral reforms, he said. The 80-year-old anti-corruption crusader, whose previous agitation propelled many leaders, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, to the national limelight has decided that those who wish to associate with him now will have to swear in an affidavit that they will not join politics in future. "During past agitations, among those who associated with me, one is a chief minister, another is a governor and yet another is a minister. Now if anyone associated with me joins politics in future, I will take him to the court. We are taking affidavits from those joining my agitation that they will not enter electoral politics," Hazare told PTI. Apart from Kejriwal, Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi and Union ...
