AAP has wide LS seat plan 5.1.2014 Asian Age: India
The one-year-old Aam Aadmi Party is spreading its wings to go national. The party will announce its first list of candidates for this year’s Lok Sabha elections within two weeks, AAP leader Sanjay Singh said during a meeting of its national executive on Saturday. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, AAP’s convenor, however, said he won’t contest the Lok Sabha polls. “I am not contesting the Lok Sabha elections,” he told reporters. The party chalked out its plans and strategies to build a national perspective for the general elections at Delhi’s Constitution Club. Apart from the 23 core members of its national executive, AAP’s representatives from all over the country were at the meeting. The frequency of these meetings has increased since the party picked up pace. “We will fight the elections from most seats in most states,” AAP leader Prashant Bhushan said, adding that the names of most candidates would be announced by February 15. Every profession has its professional hazards. Surgeons run the daily risk of leaving their scissors or spectacles in someone’s stomach, ovaries, or whatever else they’re operating upon. Politicians risk opening their mouths only to have an eager opposition and media ram a pair of feet in. Diplomats risk hiring maids. And so on. For astrologers and columnists, both of whom may be called pundits, the default risk is to say something — and be proven wrong — in which case the time-honoured response is to wipe the egg off the face and make the next prediction or pronouncement. To say nothing is not an option. What good is an astrologer if he only says, “hey, er, um…que sera sera”? The process of becoming a successful pundit is helped along by a dose of discretion. Basically, shout from the rooftops if any of your predictions ever comes true. Make no mention of all the ones that didn’t come true.
