Too early to judge AAP, says Prime Minister 3.1.2014 Asian Age: India
In his first remarks on Aam Aadmi Party’s stunning debut in Delhi polls, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday said the people’s verdict needed to be respected and it was too early to judge whether the fledgling party’s experiments would be successful. Singh, whose government has been facing attack on the issue of corruption, admitted that it was an issue and AAP had been able to “make success out of their concerns of eradication of corruption”. “People of India have reposed confidence in the AAP party in Delhi. I think we must respect the democratic process,” he said while responding to a question on AAP’s electoral success in the national capital. “Only time will tell whether this experiment is capable of dealing with the challenges that our economy and polity faces. It is too early, less than a week. They must be given time and chance to justify themselves,” he said. AAP led by Arvind Kejriwal bagged 28 out of 70 seats in the just-held Delhi ...

Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely launched a scathing attack on the BJP in the Assembly on Thursday. Backing the Aam Aadmi Party, Mr Lovely asserted that the Congress would always support the AAP because the latter has promised to fight against corruption. Mr Lovely said the Congress came forward to help AAP form the government in Delhi because “we did not want elections again in Delhi. We had the least to lose if there were re-polls; we acted as a responsible political party.” Taking a dig at the BJP, Mr Lovely said that despite various claims, the saffron party failed to come to the power in the national capital. “We have been hearing that you will form the government for years now but you are still in the Opposition,” he mocked. Meanwhile, the Congress asked Arvind Kejriwal led Aam Aadmi Party not to rush with important decisions. He assured the AAP that there is “no danger” to its government in Delhi “till you keep taking decisions that benefit the people,” he said. Over a debate ...
