India will need to invest around Rs 10 lakh crore to meet the steel production target of 300 million tonne by 2030, Steel Minister Chaudhary Birender Singh said on Saturday. He said this at the inauguration of four major facilities at JSPL's 6 million tonne per tonne annum (MTPA) steel plant here, which included a Rs 10,000 crore coal gasification unit and a blast furnace. Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan inaugurated one of the four facilities. "We have set a target of raising steel production in the country to 300 mtpa by 2030 and an investment of Rs 10 lakh crore would have to be made to achieve the goal," Singh said. The facilities opened by the two Union ministers are: 3 mtpa basic oxygen furnace (BOF); 2 mtpa DRI plant; a blast furnace -- billed as India's largest; and Rs 10,000 crore coal gasification plant for making steel based on indigenous coal. While the coal gasification plant was inaugurated by Pradhan, the other three facilities were inaugurated by Singh. Describing Odisha as a fast ...

India teams up with China to counter OPEC's influence on fuel pricing 14.6.2018 DNA: Money
With oil producers' cartel OPEC playing havoc with prices, India discussed with China the possibility of forming an 'oil buyers club' that can negotiate better terms with sellers as well as getting more US crude oil to Asia to cut dominance of the oil block. As a follow up of Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's idea floated at the International Energy Forum (IEF) meeting here in April, Indian Oil Corp (IOC) Chairman Sanjiv Singh travelled to Beijing this month to meet Wang Yilin, Chairman of China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC), a top source said. On discussion table was debottlenecking infrastructure to facilitate more US crude oil comes to Asia so as to cut the dominance of Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), which supplies about 60 per cent of India's oil needs. Production cuts by OPEC have led to international oil prices hitting a four year high last month that forced a Rs 3.8 per litre hike in petrol and Rs 3.38 a litre increase in diesel prices. Rates started to cool towards ...

Explosion at Hawaii volcano spews ash as lava flows into sea 11.6.2018 DNA: Popular News
A small explosion at the summit of Hawaii's erupting Kilauea Volcano on Sunday sent ash spewing into the air, creating a driving hazard for roads on parts of the Big Island, the US Geological Survey said. Lava fountains from a fissure in the volcano reached as high as 180 feet (55 meters) from Saturday night into Sunday, pushing flows of molten rock into the ocean, it said. "Seismic activity at the crater continues with gas explosions and ash eruptions under 10,000 feet (3,050 metres). While the eruption is never predictable, conditions appear stable for the moment," Richard Rapoza, a spokesman for Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, said in an email. The eruption, which entered its 39th day on Sunday, stands as the most destructive in the United States since at least the violent 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens in Washington state that reduced hundreds of square miles (km) to wasteland and killed nearly 60 people, according to geologist Scott Rowland, a volcanologist at the University of Hawaii at ...
