UK lawmakers criticize social media over response to extremist content 1.5.2017 DNA: Opinion
Social media were heavily criticised by a committee of British lawmakers on Monday for failing to do enough to remove illegal and extremist material posted on their sites, and for not preventing it appearing in the first place. Platforms such as Twitter, YouTube and Facebook has been criticized over their moderation policies after high-profile cases in which violent or abusive material has been posted online and, in some cases, not been removed even after they were notified. The committee's report said it had found repeated examples of extremist material, including from banned jihadist and neo-Nazi groups not being removed, even after it had been reported. "Social media companies’ failure to deal with illegal and dangerous material online is a disgrace," said Yvette Cooper, chairwoman of parliament's Home Affairs Select Committee. "They have been asked repeatedly to come up with better systems to remove illegal material such as terrorist recruitment or online child abuse. Yet repeatedly they have failed ...

Denied ambulance, father transports boy's body on two-wheeler 30.4.2017 deccanherald.com
A man was compelled to shift the body of his three-year-old son on his two-wheeler as doctors at the Government Hospital in Anekal reportedly refused to shift the body in an ambulance. But the doctors have denied negligence on their part. Raheem was playing near his house at Anekal on Sunday evening. He was mowed down by a bike when he ran across the main road at 7.30 pm near Karpur Gate. The victim's parents hail from Assam and have settled in Anekal as labourers. Dr Anitha, duty doctor at the Hospital on Sunday night, said: "The boy was dead when he was brought to the hospital around 8 pm. We examined and told the father that he had died half an hour ago. As soon as the news broke, the boy's father grabbed the body and ran away." Hurdle for post-mortem Anitha said the father did not even permit the doctors to conduct a post-mortem and complete formalities. "Doctors should enter details in the death book, besides informing the local police about accident-related deaths. Doctors can arrange the ambulance ...

Hubby held for woman's murder 30.4.2017 deccanherald.com
The Electronics City police have arrested a 25-year-old garment factory worker on the charge of murdering his pregnant wife.

The arrested Ajay Das hails from Assam and is a resident of Basavapura here. He strangled his wife Junali to death, wrapped her body in a plastic cover and threw it in a bush near his house before fleeing to Assam. A special police team arrested him in Assam and brought him to the city, the police said.

Visit to doctor
Some six months ago, Das took her to a hospital after she complained of stomach pain. Doctors told her that she was pregnant and wanted to know if she had conceived earlier. However, Junali failed to reply satisfactorily. Das grew suspicious about her and started to quarrel with her frequently.

Das had a fight with her over the same issue recently. Junali told him that she has two children from her earlier marriage. She told Das that he was her second husband. An enraged Das strangled her, the police said.

Khader wants BSY to apologise for 'communalising' Karthikraj murder 30.4.2017 Deccan Herald - News
Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader has slammed the BJP state president, B S Yeddyurappa, for targeting Muslims over the killing of 28-year-old Karthikraj and asked him to apologise for calling the murder politically motivated. Speaking to journalists here on Sunday, Khader congratulated the City Crime Branch (CCB) ACP, Valentine D'Souza, and his team for cracking the case. But he demanded action against the police officer who had "delayed" the investigation and said he would ask the Mangaluru police commissioner to conduct an enquiry into the matter. The police lapses will also be brought to the notice of Home Minister G Parameshwara, he said. Karthikraj, son of Umesh Ganiga, a former president of Mangaluru taluk panchayat, was found murdered near Konaje police station on October 22, 2016. The Mangaluru police have arrested three people, including Karthikraj's sister, Kavyashree, for the murder. Sibling rivalry is said to be the prime motive for the murder. Khader accused Yeddyurappa of ...
