New Delhi Crude imports from US may more than double to $8b this year The US may offer higher quantities of oil and gas to India on concessional terms from its own reserves to help the country tide over Iran sanctions that propose to suck out close to 10 per cent of Indian crude imports once full scale of import curbs becomes effective early next fiscal. Diplomatic sources said that US is willing to double its oil supplies to India next year, which could enable the country import close to $ 8 billion worth of fuel in 2019 against $3.8 billion paid to the US in 2018. For India, the fear is that US may not allow oil imports to major importing countries from Iran once the its initial 180 days sanction waiver ends. They want rules to be applicable alike for both multinationals and domestic players. However, the industry reckons that it would be tougher to get the new norms eased for multinational players, with Reliance announcing its foray into the e-commerce sector. The current regulations and norms in the e-commerce space are mostly meant for the FDI-funded entities. These may not be applicable for Reliance, as it does not need FDI to fund its e-commerce venture. “Whosoever launches an e-commerce portal, it should be based on fair fundamentals and not on malpractices, which includes predatory pricing, deep discounting, loss funding or exclusivity. Hitesh Goel & Nishit Jalan Kotak Securities Retail auto demand growing faster in under-penetrated states. We analyse the trends in passenger vehicle (PV) and two-wheeler (2W) retail demand across top-15 states/UT in India in this note. The data suggests that the PV segment has low penetration in most of the states in India, whereas the two-wheeler segment has high penetration levels across most Indian states. The data suggests that new vehicle registrations in states with lower level of penetration have outpaced industry growth rates. Penetration data of passenger vehicles in top-15 states/UT shows that India has low PV penetration (21 PVs per 1,000 people). Delhi (98 PVs per 1,000 people), Haryana (60 PVs per 1,000 people) and Kerala (55 PVs per 1,000 people) have the highest PV penetration in FY2018.
