But it has not taken any decision on taking petrol, diesel, LPG petroleum product under the GST cover. It merely said that in the next 26th meeting of the GST Council after 10 days on 28th January the Council will discuss and may take decision on petrol, diesel. Four days before the Central Budget the Council may give surprise on it. Most of the states are against taking petroleum products under GST cover. Most of the state income come from tax on petroleum products and excise duty on liquor. Suyash Gupta With Delhi’s air quality again slipping to severe category, a series of desperate emergency measures such as ban on construction activities and restrictions on traffic have been imposed in the national capital. The Supreme Court-appointed Environment Pollution Prevention and Control Authority (EPCA) is even considering a drastic ban on the use of non-CNG vehicles if air quality continues to deteriorate. Government expenditure is on only in healthcare and in some other amenities, he said. "To keep this expenditure going on, the government has continued taxing petrol, diesel and even LPG. It is squeezing money from people in such taxes and spending some from it on public amenities," Chidambaram said. Did you see any investment in the power sector recently, he questioned. "For example, out of the 10 major companies that went into insolvency, five were steel ...
