At a time when attempts are being made to remove the taboo associated with the topic of menstrual hygiene with increased awareness, the Maharashtra government is all set to roll out its "Asmita Yojana" on the International Women's Day next month. Under the scheme, girls in Zilla Parishad schools will get a sanitary napkin packet at Rs 5 while rural women can avail it at a subsidised rate of Rs 24 and Rs 29. The scheme, catering to girl students and women in rural areas, will be formally launched on March 8, a Rural Development ministry official told PTI. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar will be present at the launch. Akshay's film "Padman", released recently, envisioned to create awareness about menstrual hygiene among rural women. The Asmita Yojana was announced last year by Women and Child and Rural Development Minister Pankaja Munde. Odisha places demands before Niti Aayog 17.2.2018 General News
The Odisha government today informed the Niti Aayog that the state wanted restoration of central assistance for special KBK plan, IAP and BRGF districts, hike of the Centres share in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and revision of coal royalty besides the special category status, official sources said. The state's requirement and the demands were placed before Niti Aayog when its vice-chairman Rajiv Kumar met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the state secretariat here. Apart from demanding revision of coal royalty, Patnaik sought opening of bank branches in 4376 unbanked gram panchayats in the state. He also reiterated Odisha's demand for special category status, the sources said. Education dept orders inquiry after trustee canes students 16.2.2018 General News
The state education department has ordered an inquiry into an incident where students of a local school were allegedly caned by one of its trustees. Rajendra Ahire, Deputy Director of Education, Mumbai Division, told PTI that he had ordered the Education Officer (Secondary) Thane Zilla Parishad to conduct an inquiry and submit a report. Eighteen students suffered injuries after they were allegedly beaten up on Wednesday for creating noise in the process of shifting benches and chairs while preparing for a school event scheduled for later this month, officials said. Parents of the students, some of whom suffered fractures, had filed a case with Thane police against the trustee of the school, officials added. A delegation of the Thane Matadata Jagran Abhiyan and the Nationalist Congres Party's OBC Cell, comprising Ghanshyam Sonar and Raj Rajapurkar, had met Ahire today and demanded strict action against the trustee.
