Bengal Panchayat poll: Govt to appoint administrators for seats which TMC won uncontested 17.8.2018 DNA: Top News
A notification has been issued by the West Bengal state government that administrators would be appointed for the 34% seats which the TMC had won uncontested in the last three-tier Panchayat election but a final decision of which is pending at the Supreme Court. The notification, issued by the state Panchayat and Rural affairs department on Thursday said that respective district magistrates would be administrators for zilla parishads where as sub divisional officers (SDO) and block development officials (BDO) would be in charge of panchayat samitis and gram panchayats, respectively. State Panchayat minister Subrata Mukherjee said that appointing administrators had become inevitable. “The tenure of these rural bodies would be completed soon and since a final order from the Supreme Court is awaited, appointing administrators was the only way out,” Mukherjee said. After painting CM's Office, government buildings, Dr Ambedkar’s statute , police stations , toilets etc in saffron hue, now a 20-year-old statue of Mahatma Gandhi was saffronised in Shahjahapur district of Uttar Pradesh. According to police, the white-coloured statue of Mahatma Gandhi, installed at the gram sabha land in Dhaka Ghanshyampur in Shahjahanpur, was painted in saffron colour on Wednesday night by some miscreants. Tension prevailed in the area when villagers saw the statue turning saffron overnight. They blamed the local BJP leaders behind the act. Soon a large number of Congress leaders and workers gathered in the village and held a demonstration. They demanded action against culprits and repainting of Mahatma Gandhi statue in the original white colour.
