Bhopal’s ‘Intelligent Traffic Management System’ shows few signs of intelligence 4.3.2020 Citizen Matters

Demand to re-determine Smart City 8.2.2020 Central Chronicle
Bhopal, The intensity of opposition to smart city is increasing constantly. Under the auspices of the Merchant Resident Welfare Federation, traders and residents protested in the Tin Shed area on Thursday demanding a re-determination of the scheme. During this, traders came on the road carrying black flags and banners. The traders shouted slogans against the administration. Memorandum submitted to Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Ministry of Urban Housing and Environment. A memorandum was sent to the Chief Minister and all the principal officials demanding that the smart city scheme be re-determined. Obstacle in smart road removed 30.1.2020 Central Chronicle
Bhopal, The constructions made that were being barrier to the smart road were broken by the Bhopal Smart city Development Corporation limited after the constructions were investigated by smart city company, municipal corporation, district administration and police department. Constructions were broke between Bharat Mata Chauraha and polytechnic Chauraha. The breaking of construction was started 9 in the evening on Friday. The team was of 60 members where 2 JCB machine and 2 poklan machines were there. During the investigation, upper commissioner Mayank Verma, engineer of smart city company, B.K. Bhardwaj were present.  8 constructions were broken during the investigation. Construction were broken with the help of JCB machine. Remarkable is that, the road from Bharat Mata Chauraha for about 2.5 kms is being developed. The work is complete 95% till now.

Darkness on Smart City roads 29.1.2020 Central Chronicle
Streetlights in most of the areas in city not working, responsible officials not aware Chronicle Reporter, Bhopal, The dark streets of the city are exposing the reality of the shortcomings of the Smart City project and negligence of the PWD officials. Despite spending lakhs on streetlights there is darkness on a number of city roads after sunset. Locals told that they have talked with the public representatives in this regard on many occasions but to no avail. Out of the 37000 streetlights in the city, almost 25 per cent are defective causing great discomfort to the citizens.Majority of residential as well as commercial areas in the city are reeling under total darkness due to this Even on main roads and junctions most of the street lights are either shut or dysfunctional creating problems for pedestrians as well as motorists.
