Bhubaneswar to have second airport: Civil Aviation Ministry 30.5.2018 General News
Odisha's capital Bhubaneswar is set to get a second airport to reduce congestion at the existing one, the Civil Aviation Ministry today said. The airport registered a growth of 39.4 per cent in 2017-18 fiscal, making it one of the fastest growing airports in the country. "Identification of a suitable land to build a second airport near Khurda on then outskirts of Bhubaneswar has been initiated. The set-up process will be fast tracked. The new airport will reduce air traffic congestion while improving passenger convenience," the ministry tweeted. Earlier this month, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had urged Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu to set up a new airport on the outskirts of the city as the existing airport was nearing saturation. Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) has launched an e-office to pave way for paperless work and efficient office management in city projects. The e-office, inaugurated by BSCL's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) R Vineel Krishna recently, is an initiative that automates file and correspondence movement from its creation to archival, a senior BSCL official said. The project will enable the smart city's office to go entirely paperless and reduce manual hand-offs and lead to higher efficiency. As conventional files consume papers indirectly consuming plants, this e-office will be a green initiative to help conserve the natural ecosystem, he said. The initiative would also ensure faster movement of files as the system could be monitored and any delays could be addressed, he said. India inks pact with Canada's IDRC 22.2.2018 General News
The government today signed a pact with Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC) for research collaboration in various fields, according to an official statement. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between India and Canada's IDRC to usher the 'programme based research support' in addressing current and future global and local developmental challenges was signed, it said. During the signing ceremony, the Indian side appreciated the contribution of IDRC in supporting quality research in various fields, including finance, agriculture, industry and health in India, the statement said today. Since 1972, IDRC has funded 551 research activities worth CAD 159 million in India through institutions, researchers and NGOs. During the last five years (2012-17), 96 research projects worth CAD 51 million were funded by the IDRC in India.
