Slim Whitman dies of heart failure at the age of 90 20.6.2013 The Guardian -- World Latest
Country singer recorded more than 65 albums and his 1955 version of Rose Marie was No 1 for 11 weeks in Britain Country music star Slim Whitman has died at age 90 of heart failure at Orange Park medical centre in Florida. Born in Tampa, Florida, Whitman started his career in the late 1940s, but later had a career revival in the 1980s as a cult icon. 12 O'Clock Boys: the documentary for those suffering The Wire withdrawal 18.6.2013 The Guardian -- World Latest
Lotfy Nathan's account of young bikers on the rough streets familiar from The Wire illuminates Baltimore's social divisions For those suffering withdrawal symptoms from The Wire since David Simon 's Baltimore drama ended in 2008, help is at hand in the form of a new documentary film set in the same troubled city. 12 O'Clock Boys tells the story of Pug, a 13-year-old boy growing up in a rough part of town, desperate to join the pack of fearless motorbike riders who cruise intimidatingly through the streets, dozens-deep, performing terrifying stunts and sparring with the police. For viewers of The Wire, this is a familiar world: stoops silhouetted in the glare of orange sunsets, ominous-looking rowhouses whose boarded-up windows loom over shattered streets and scrubland like blinded eyes, the people ...
