Student killed for exposing classmate's affair 17.12.2017 Deccan Herald - National
A Class XII boy in Bihars Rohtas district was killed apparently for exposing a love affair of one of his classmates. The body of 17-year-old Sahil Kumar was recovered by police from Jagdeo Chowk under Tilhauti police station, around 180 km from the state capital. Sahil was the only son of Saraswati Devi and Shambhu Singh, who works for a textile company in Ahmedabad. The matter came to light after Sahils body was recovered by Tilhauti police. "His identity could be ascertained from the school identity card recovered from his pocket," said Station House Officer (SHO) of the police station, Vishwajeet Kumar. Sahils family members claimed he was killed for exposing the love affair of his classmate with a girl student. In an FIR lodged with the police, Sahils kin claimed that the boy had spotted his friend with the girl in a compromising position on December 7. Gujarat Elections 2017 | Voters may have last laugh in these seats 17.12.2017 DNA: Top News
Though the exit polls have given a clear majority of more than 50% seats to BJP in the Gujarat Assembly polls, the candidates of both the parties have kept their fingers crossed for Monday, the day of counting. There is a possibility that bigwigs can lose with a thin margin. Vatva: While BJP has fielded Home Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja, Congress candidate is businessman Bipin Patel. The seat covers a portion of Ahmedabad city dominated by Patel, OBC and Muslim communities and and rural outskirts which has as huge population of Thakor community. Political observers say the Patel community could vote against Jadeja as two people from the community in this area were killed in open firing by police during reservation agitation. Jadeja may get a breather as polarisation in Muslim votes is likely as two Muslim candidates are in the fray. Sayajigunj: This seat of Vadodara city has been a BJP bastion but this time, it is witnessing a triangular contest among BJP candidate Jitu Sukhadia, Congress candidate ...

Gujarat model: Is Rajasthan BJP's new Hindutva lab? 15.12.2017 Deccan Herald - Analysis
As the BJP celebrated the fourth anniversary of the Vasundhara Raje government in Rajasthan, the year 2017 will also be remembered for incidents of intolerance that stoked nationwide outrage. The peaceful state witnessed some of the most controversial and communal incidents of violence that started with the murder of Pehlu Khan by a mob of cow vigilantes, then the protests and threats against the makers of the Bollywood movie Padmavati, and most recently the gory, video-recorded murder of a migrant Muslim labourer in the name of love jihad. The reasons could be, firstly the way the Rajasthan government dealt with the cases reported. Secondly, Chief Minister Rajes silence while fanatics overran the state, unafraid of the law. A timeline of unforgettable incidents starts with the sealing of Jaipurs Hotel Hayat Rabbani by cow vigilante groups on the night of March 17 over rumours that it served beef. The restaurant could be reopened only 74 days later after a Forensic Sciences Lab report revealed that the ...

Modi, Manmohan Singh pay tribute to Parliament attack martyrs 13.12.2017 deccanherald.com
The bitter slugfest ahead of the Gujarat polls receded into the background today as political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his predecessor Manmohan Singh, gathered to pay homage to the martyrs of the 2001 Parliament attack. Modi and Singh greeted each other warmly at the sombre ceremony, held in the Parliament House complex. Vice President and Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu, the prime minister, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Manmohan Singh, BJP veteran L K Advani, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, her son Rahul, several senior ministers and politicians showered petals at the portraits of the bravehearts killed in the attack 16 years ago. When Singh greeted Modi with a namaste just before the ceremony, the latter cupped his hands. Earlier this week, Modi had accused Singh of colluding with Pakistan to ensure BJPs defeat in Gujarat. Singh had hit back at Modi for allegedly spreading "falsehood and canards" to "score political points in a lost cause". On December 13, 2001, five ...
