SHANGHAI (Reuters) - China confirmed a new human infection of the deadly H7N9 avian influenza virus, state news agency Xinhua said, the first case this winter in the southern province of Guangdong. A 31-year-old woman surnamed Deng, from the provincial city of Dongguan, was confirmed on Friday to have been infected with the virus, Guangdong's health and family commission said in a statement on its website. A six-year-old boy, who was kidnapped from central Delhi's Ranjit Nagar, was found dead with his throat slit in west Delhi's Naraina on Friday. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of Rs 1.5 lakh from the boy's father for his safe release, police said. The incident comes only two days after Delhi Police solved a similar case of Utkarsh Verma, 13-year-old son of a jeweller in east Delhi's Gandhi Nagar. The victim in the latest case has been identified as Ganesh, who lived with his parents and three sisters in Ranjit Nagar's Pandav Nagar. Ganesh's father Pramod is a street fruit hawker. On Thursday, Ganesh was playing outside his house while Pramod was selling fruit in the nearby market. Around 9.15 pm, Pramod received a call from an unknown number. A man was found dead with his throat slit in north-east's Delhi Jyoti Nagar. A bloodstained knife has been found on the spot, police said on Friday. Kapil Mehr, 22, who hailed from Uttarakhand, assisted a disc jockey. Police said he lived with his friends in a rented house at Gokulpuri block B. "The incident came to light when a call was made to the police control room around 9 pm on Friday," said a police officer. It was reported that an injured man was lying near Delhi Jal Board's office in Jyoti Nagar. Kapil was taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, where he was declared brought dead. Police said he had sustained multiple stab wounds in the attack. After an initial probe, police have ruled out robbery as nothing was found missing. The girls died on 28 May this year and it took the local police, then a SIT and finally the CBI a whole six months to even ascertain what happened. The process of punishing the guilty — in this case the girls' families for obfuscating evidence say reports — will only begin after this. Even if we are to believe that the girls committed suicide, one thing shouldn't be forgotten — the fact that no one else physically took their lives doesn't make them any less a victim.
