At least 30 localities in western and northern parts of Bengaluru were inundated and rainwater gushed into hundreds of homes as the city received another spell of heavy rainfall on Friday evening. Traffic crawled and thousands of people were stranded in knee-deep water on the city's potholed roads. The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will ply over 1,500 additional buses to various places in Karnataka and neighboring states between September 28 and October 2 from Kempegowda bus station, Mysuru Road bus station and Shanthinagar BMTC and TTMC in Bengaluru in the wake of festival season. Special buses will be operated from various places of the state and neighboring states to Bengaluru between October 3 and 8. About 130 special buses will be operated from Mysuru Road bus station to Mysuru for Dasara festival. About 180 special buses will be operated from Mysuru to help tourists visit Chamundi Hills, KRS Dam, Srirangapatna, Nanjanagud, Madikeri, Mandya, Malavalli, HD Kote, Chamarajanagar, Hunsur, KR Nagar, Gundlupet and surrounding areas. Fly Bus ( A/C multi-axle service) will be introduced from Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru to Mysuru directly. The area around Shivajinagar bus station is poised for a major makeover under the Smart City project. The project comprises upgrading the playground near the Traffic Transit Management Centre (TTMC) of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC). Beneath the playground, Metro rail's proposed station will come up. The Metro station will be connected through the bus stand. A walking track will be developed connecting the bus stand, a nearby church and a temple. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, which is taking forward the Smart City project, promises to turn the place into a paradise for pedestrians. "The playground will be upgraded into a state-of-the-art amphitheatre and a commercial hub. At present, there are some shops there. BMRCL has extended the timings for North-South and East-West corridors with the first service beginning at 5 am and the last train departing at around 11 pm while BMTC is preparing to bridge the last-mile gap. Those in the Majestic area can board a train to the four corners served by Metro at 11.25 pm. "The first train from terminal stations — Baiyappanahalli, Mysuru Road, Nagasandra and Yelachenahalli — will start at 5 am. Passengers should note that the speed of these initial trains will be slow as they are pilot trains," the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) stated in a release on Friday. HomeMinister GParameshwara on Friday said the government had no plans to set up anti-Romeo squads on the lines of those in Uttar Pradesh.

"There is no need for anti-Romeo squads in the state as our police are capable of nabbing those committing crimes against women. The government will set up a stronger squad than anti-Romeo squads if crimes against women and eve-teasing cases go up," he told reporters during his visit to the All Women's Station at Shivajinagar. The police station was shifted to Shivajinagar TTMC.

"The government would soon start patrolling by women police personnel in the city to ensure safety of women and children," he said.

"The government has taken steps to strengthen 35 women's police stations across the state," he said.
