Kalasipalya's sordid saga continues as TTMC remains distant dream 11.11.2015 deccanherald.com
The government's proposal to construct a state-of-the-art Transport Transit Management Centre (TTMC) in Kalasipalya seems to be far fetched. Instead, the bus terminus is filled with slush, garbage and urine. Seven years ago, the State government had mooted the idea of constructing a TTMC, where not only the BMTC buses and the KSRTC buses will terminals, but also private bus operators anchor. The land originally belonged to BBMP, but was exchanged with the Transport department, in particular the BMTC. While the TTMC is still a distant dream, basic requirements such as shelters, pavements, proper roads and clean toilets are non-existent. The pavements are unstable and passengers have a hard time standing there, let alone walking. The remaining space is occupied by street dwellers who spend most of the time sleeping. People choose to urinate in the open due to toilets being in an unhygienic state. The place becomes a breeding ground for many insects and germs that cause diseases such as Typhoid and ...

A chaotic mix of mounting vehicular traffic, haphazard parking, encroached footp 3.7.2015 deccanherald.com
Once a spacious and serene residential locality, Vijayanagar Assembly constituency is now bustling with activities. Increasing vehicular traffic and unregulated commercial development have become the bane of residents here. Almost all eight Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) wards have witnessed rapid commercial development over the last few years. A majority of the residential properties along the main roads has now become commercial. Showrooms, medical shops, boutiques, salons...assortment of other commercial activities have cropped up on all main roads. This has resulted in increase in traffic volume. In the absence of designated parking space in any of the wards and blatant violation of basement parking rules, vehicles are parked on footpaths and roads. To avoid heavy traffic on main roads, two-wheelers use residential bylanes. Hawkers and roadside eateries occupying the footpath space have only added to the problem. But neither the BBMP nor the traffic police has taken any measure to some ...

People's problems 12.4.2015 deccanherald.com
Increase height of road median There is a traffic signal at a junction where South End Road and Inner Ring Road near Rajalakshmi Kalyana Mantapa converge. Vehicles coming from Banashankari TTMC side and proceeding towards JP Nagar 1st Phase via Sarakki Main Road have to take a U-turn at this traffic signal. A median towards Banashankari TTMC is very low for some distance and of late two-wheelers, cars and even auto rickshaws have started taking U-turn on the low median instead waiting for signal to turn green. This has become a very dangerous practice because of the high volume of traffic from Jayanagar 5th block side towards Banashankari TTMC and this may lead to accidents. I request the traffic police authorities to immediately raise the height of median to curb the illegal U-turn on the median by the motorists. K Srinivasa Rao Central library faces fund crunch The City Central Library is funded by the BBMP. No funds were released to the library for the past 10 months. The library has stopped receiving ...

Urban deadline renewal mission 15.9.2013 deccanherald.com
JnNURM had an ambitious objective to create economically productive, efficient, equitable and responsive cities. But its experience with Bangalore's civic agencies has been one of delayed projects, diverted funds, cost overruns and substandard work. It was always beyond doubt. Bangalore's poor drainage infrastructure simply stood no chance against unprecedented rains of the kind witnessed this season. The severely water-logged roads took aeons to drain out, the Storm Water Drains (SWD) overflowed and the manholes stood dangerously exposed. But this worst case scenario could have been avoided had the civic agencies taken up the SWD remodelling project under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM) with all promptness! Acutely clogged, widely encroached, the SWDs are anything but free-flowing. Cosmetic desilting had failed repeatedly to address the city's perennial road-flooding problems. The drains cried for a remodelling based on scientific designs that ensured zero sewage ...
