To create awareness on herbs which have many medicinal values, Zilla Panchayat, along with Social Forestry and Ayush Department, has developed two herbal gardens (Dhanvanthari Gidamoolika Vana) in the district. The herbal garden at Government Primary school at Golithottu in Puttur was inaugurated recently. The garden has come up on one acre of land and has 20 varieties of herbs. The school development and monitoring committee will maintain the garden. Another garden is coming up on Gram Panchayat land at Bellare in Sullia taluk. Many herbs, which are used in the preparation of medicines, are always available in the vicinity of the households and fields. However, the general public are neither aware of its presence nor its value.
