SHILLONG, Sep 04: Pointing out that six months have passed since the Bharatiya Janata Party had claimed that it will resolve the National Green Tribunal (NGT) ban on coal mining activities in Meghalaya, Congress MLA, PT Sawkmie has asked why the said ban is still in force.
“The BJP national leaders had claimed that if they come to power in the state they would resolve the issue of coal ban within a matter of months. But now they are part of the state government and even after six months we don’t see the light of day,” Sawkmie said here on Tuesday.

SHILLONG, Aug 24: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has shifted the onus of solving the ongoing ban on coal related activities to the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma while maintaining that any decision on policies will have to be taken by the Chief Minister and his cabinet.
It may be noted here that the BJP, during the campaigning process of the February state polls this year had promised that it would resolve the ban on coal mining in Meghalaya within six to eight months if it is voted to power.
