In his first press conference in Tehran, two days after being confirmed as the elected successor to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Rouhani presented himself as a moderate politician willing to "enhance mutual trust" between Tehran and the international community, including Britain and the US, and as the saviour of the Iranian economy by working to lift sanctions.

"We have to enhance mutual trust between Iran and other countries," said Rouhani, nicknamed in the Iranian media as the diplomat sheikh and the sheikh of hope. "We have to build trust," he said. Rouhani made clear that his government will pursue a ...

Ten things to know about foreign policy under Julie Bishop and Tony Abbott - The Guardian -- World Latest

Or … nine things that would change, and one that would stay the same if the Coalition win the September election

In a detailed interview with Guardian Australia Coalition foreign affairs spokeswoman Julie Bishop talks about how Australia's approach to the world would be different if the Coalition wins the election on 14 September.

1. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade would become a 'powerhouse' department again

Outcry in austerity-hit Israel over news that 'rest chamber' was installed on plane ferrying PM and wife to London for Thatcher funeral

The Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, has encountered severe turbulence after it emerged that he ordered a double bed to be installed on a plane that carried him and his deeply unpopular wife, Sara, to Lady Thatcher's funeral in London last month – at a cost of $127,000 (£83,000).

Following an outcry over the cost of installing a "rest chamber" on the chartered El Al flight, Netanyahu's office said that henceforth no ...
