Teacher Matt Wade and a group of students from Ridgway High School had a big idea. They saw a need for renewable energy education in Ouray County and they wanted to learn in a hands-on, innovative way. Their vision: To study solar energy through the installation of a 10-watt solar panel on the school, and to generate enough energy to power a student-made iPod listening station in the student lounge.

From a recession to a measured resurgence, Telluride endures - Telluride: News

If we learned anything about ourselves and about Telluride in 2009, it’s that we, and this town, endure. This last year was defined in simple economic terms for us, and we learned a lesson: Even our sno-globe town isn’t invincible. Our region made difficult financial decisions as revenues that once flowed ebbed. We braced against a recession and swallowed the passings of our friends. But for all that bad news we still measured our smiles in inches as snow fell around us like confetti. We toasted each other and this place in the last light of summer evenings. And this much we know: there was never anywhere better to be, in both good times and bad.
