AVON, Colorado -The town of Avon and the Avon Historical Preservation Advisory Committee are working on stabilizing and restoring the Nottingham Power Plant. Town staff will be clearing brush and debris, and will be removing an old wall from the area next week. In the spring of 2009, the town of Avon received a $20,000 grant from the State Historical Society to stabilize and restore the Nottingham Power Plant. The goal of the project is to protect the power plant from further deterioration and maintain this piece of Avon history. Phase one of the project involved removing the water wheel by Colorado Mountain College for restoration which is ongoing at their Leadville campus. WOLCOTT, Colorado - Firefighters from the Eagle River Fire Protection District extinguished a burning home in Wolcott on Tuesday evening. Responding from its station in Edwards the fire district arrived at about 7:20 p.m., firefighters found a smoke-filled house at 802 Alkali Creek Road. The home is located in the Horse Mountain Ranch Subdivision. Firefighters quickly entered the house and extinguished the blaze, which was burning in the home's kitchen. "Even though this house lies outside the boundaries of the Eagle River Fire Protection District, a quick response by firefighters made all the difference," said Charles Moore, fire chief for the Eagle River Fire Protection District.
