On Jan 2 2021, the newsrack service has been shut down permanently.

It has been a nice long run from the Sarai days in 2004 to being hosted on its own domain around 2006. Beside maintenance, there has been no real active development on the code or the features since early 2008. Since 2015, even all that maintenance was pretty bare bones. A lot of news sources no longer provide reliable RSS feeds and since mid 2018, there were growing issues with the service and I only kept it alive to assist a handful of users.

So, it was time to shut this down. The internet world in 2020 is vastly differently from 2003 when I first conceptualized this service. Thanks for using this all these years.

This is an archive of previously crawled content that will be kept around for a few weeks.

Suburban rail network project on track, if state agrees for FSI 18.1.2018 deccanherald.com
The Centre has offered to bear 50% of the project cost for building a suburban rail network, if the state can sanction Floor Space Index for the railway land. The announcement has cleared an important barrier in the states long-time demand of having a suburban rail network. The state government fixes the FSI through local bodies to determine the stress a building would put on civic amenities. FSI in Bengaluru is called Floor Area Ratio and is decided by the plot size and width of the road, among other factors. "We have studied the RITES report on the 160-km suburban railway for Bengaluru, about half of which will be on the elevated stretch," Railway Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday. "We will place (the plan) before the Railway Board and finance officials." Goyal spoke after a surprise visit to the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna Station and a meeting with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar, MP P C Mohan and officials of the South Western Railways Bengaluru division. While the new suburban ...
