The Nagpur University on Friday suspended assistant professor Shoma Sen after she was taken into custody by Pune Police in connection with the Bhima Koregaon violence case.
On Thursday, a Pune Court extended the police custody of four of the five accused till June 21.
Earlier on June 7, the court sent the four accused to police custody till June 14.
The four accused - Sudhir Dhawale, Rona Jacob Wilson, Sen and Mahesh Raut were arrested by the Pune police on June 6 from Mumbai, Nagpur, and Delhi.
Earlier, Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani criticised their arrests. "Attack on Ambedkarite movement : Maharashtra police has arrested Ambedkarite activist & editor Sudhir Dhawale in Mumbai, advocate Surendra Gadling in Nagpur and Rona Wilson in Delhi. All 3 booked under draconian UAPA while Bhima Koregaon culprit Manohar Bhide roams scot free," he had tweeted.
The Maharashtra state unit of the People's Union for Civil Liberties also condemned the arrests. "All these above persons have been active in various movements ... |

Seven human rights organisations put up a convention on Monday titled 'Convention against ongoing atrocities on Rohingyas in Myanmar'.
Condemning the action of Myanmar police and administration which has forced Rohingyas to escape to Bangladesh, the activists put forward a six-point demand. They include immediate halt of police and army action on Rohingyas, creating a favourable environment in Myanmar so that all of them can return and government should ensure their rehabilitation, government should take the responsibility of the security of their lives and property, police and army personnel guilty of killing and raping Rohingyas should be identified and punished, media and human rights organisations should be given access to the place and those who had taken refuge in India should not be forced back by the Indian government and it should put pressure on Myanmar government to take them back and give them citizenship.
